TKR (Total Knee) Knee ROM Goals Strength & Gait Stairs & Function

Milestone-Based Rehab Aligned With Your Surgeon’s Protocol

We help control swelling and pain, restore knee bend (flexion) and straightening (extension), retrain gait, and rebuild quadriceps & hip strength. You’ll learn safe strategies for sitting, standing, transfers and stairs.

Your plan blends clinic sessions with a simple home routine and weekly targets so progress is clear and motivating.

Common Focus Areas

  • Pain & swelling management (RICE, elevation, pacing)
  • Knee ROM within safe limits (extension first, then flexion)
  • Quadriceps activation & strength (VMO focus)
  • Gait retraining (aid to independent)
  • Stairs technique & functional tasks
  • Balance & fall prevention
  • Home setup & habit coaching

FAQs

Typically within the first week as directed by your surgeon. We pace exercises to your pain, swelling and wound healing.

Full extension (straight knee) early is key; flexion usually progresses to 90° by ~2–3 weeks, 110–120° over time, as tolerated and advised.

Commonly 2–6 weeks. We transition you off the aid when quad control, balance and gait quality allow safe, symmetrical walking.
